Bringing subtle coastal energy into Manhattan apartment murals
So yesterday I was visiting a friend in Soho, and in the hallway of his building I saw this soft, wave-inspired mural that instantly made the whole place feel calmer. It reminded me how much I miss the ocean, and now I’m thinking about adding something similar to my own apartment. The problem is, Manhattan vibes and coastal themes don’t always mix well, and my last attempt at painting something “calming” ended up looking like a stormy kid’s drawing. Has anyone here actually managed to blend a beach-like atmosphere with a New York interior without it feeling forced? Any tips or personal experiences would be super helpful.

Funny enough, I went through almost the same dilemma when I tried to freshen up my cousin’s apartment a few months ago, and we actually took a lot of inspiration from creative murals for seaside residences because it showed how you can borrow colors and textures without copying a literal beach scene https://feelflow.space/pages/mural-painting-services-in-rumson. What helped most was focusing on soft gradients and keeping only one main accent wall — anything more made the small space feel cramped instead of peaceful. We also played around with natural lighting and found that even a pale turquoise stripe picked up the daylight in a really nice way. Maybe start with something minimal and see how it feels before committing to a full wall.
